The Vainglorious-class Cruiser is an early design by Rendili StarDrive, dating back to the days of the Old Republic. It was even introduced before Rendili's famous Dreadnaught cruiser. Those days, the Vainglorious was one the Old Republic's main fleet vessels, manufactured for space combat and featuring dozens of Turbolaser Batteries. But the ship also has enough troops aboard to engage in ground battles and other combat scenes located on planetary surfaces. The starship's construction allows it to enter a planet's atmosphere, a feature that was later also used in the Victory-class Star Destroyer Mark I. Its tractor beam array is located at the bottom of the hull, so that smaller craft can immediately be pulled into the large hangar bays.
With the development of newer starship designs by the Rendili Corporation and the demand for more heavily armed vessels toward the end of the Old Republic and the rise of the Empire, the Vainglorious cruiser was slowly replaced with the Dreadnaught battlecruiser an the Victory Star Destroyers. However, cruiseres can still be encountered on the galactic space lanes. Some of them still serve in the navies of more remote star systems while some others have fallen into smugglers' and pirates' hands.
