CEC's YT-2100 was a miserable success, miserable that it had very low sales for a YT-series ship, and a success in that it did what CEC wanted, presented a vessel that was well within Imperial standards. CEC knew that the soon to be released YT-2400 was not going to be taken well by Imperial inspectors, to give them something to look at and perhaps make them ignore the YT-2400 while they released a vessel that exemplified everything the Empire wanted in a light freighter. It is slow, poorly armed, and contrary to almost all CEC's other work, hard to modify (+10 difficulty to Space Transport repair roll when modifying).
The YT-2100 does have a few things going for it, as its cargo capacity is two and a half times as much as the YT-1300, it also has a lot of safety add-ons that drive most experienced pilots crazy. Finally, not known to the public, it comes installed with a tracking beacon that allows the Empire to locate it whenever it is not in hyperspace. Several (recently deceased) smugglers found this out the hard way.
Named the Elomin Turkey after its appearance, the YT-2000 before and 2400 after are sleek powerful ships, on the other hand the YT-2100 has the same basic design as the YT-2000 with a big belly. An Elomin CEC's approval board said this about the ship when comparing it to others of the same line: "It looks like one of my homeworlds Turkeys, in the midst of birds of prey." The idea of it being an Elomin Turkey stuck.
