The ISB agent assigned to brief Grand Moff Tarkin, Yularen used his influence inside the ISB to stay and watch Tarkin for the Empire. Yularen believed that eventually Tarkin would become disloyal and try to take power for himself, when he did Yularen intended to stop him and receive the credit for this act to become the now head of the ISB.
Wullf Yularen was killed on the Death Star to reward his bravery in staying on board. The Empire created the ISB training center on Mindavar and named it the Yularen Academy.
