Commander Vanden Willard

illard was once the commander of the Suolriep sector HQ. In this position he acted as a spy for Bail Organna during the rise of the Empire up to approximately six months before ANH. During this time he "retired" in his private Corellian Corvette to the life of a wanderer. In reality he joined with General Jan Dodonna on Yavin to act as his adviser and to bring Dodonna up to speed in modern tactics. Willard was speaking with Bail Organna through a secure channel of the Holonet when Alderaan was destroyed. When the Millennium Falcon landed, Willard was the first to greet the daughter of his oldest friend, in order to comfort her if she needed it, but she did not.
Willard helped a little with Dodonna's plan to assault the Death Star, but most of his time was spent preparing for the evacuation of Yavin 4. During this flight he captained the Corvette "Korolev". In fact, he later helped to wright the scenario that all Alliance pilots dread: The "Redemption Scenario".
After the evacuation and the apparent "death" of Dodonna, Willard went into a semi-retirement teaching potential officers the tactics that they would need.
